Creativity and authenticity
The 3rd largest Christmas market in Alsace, Mulhouse is a very authentic and friendly place. Visitors from all around the globe and Mulhouse residents meet there to share good times and stroll between the chalets. Creation, stemming from the textile history of Mulhouse, still has a place of honour, but the Christmas market reinvents itself by adding nature as a second key theme.
As every year, a Christmas fabric, imagined by local designer Marie-Jo Gebel and printed locally, will decorate the old town hall, the market chalets, the streets and the shop windows of the town. This year, the "Haïku Poésie d'hiver" fabric is inspired by samples from the Japanese collection of the Museum of Printed Fabrics and pays tribute to the link between Mulhouse and Japan.
For this particular year, the Christmas market is being enlarged and spread over several squares and streets in the pedestrian centre. Several islands of greenery, created by the City's Service des Espaces Verts, will be integrated. The highlight will be the Children's Village on the Place de la Bourse, designed by Mulhouse artists in a fairy-tale and fantastic spirit: giant nutcrackers, colourful whirlpools... Here, you will find chalets for the youngest but also mulled wine for the oldest as well as craft and pastry workshops.
At the Boutique aux Etoffes, the exclusive Christmas fabric is available in a wide range of products (tablecloths, table runners, napkins...) all labelled "Alsace terre textile" and in objects made by local designers. The Boutique aux Etoffes also offers a wide choice of gift ideas, most of which are made by local craftsmen and companies.
Finally, the Boutique des Musées offers souvenirs, original gifts and above all the creations and products of the 11 museums of Mulhouse and South Alsace, such as the handicrafts of the Ecomusée d'Alsace (pottery, brandy, jams, etc.) or the textile articles of the creators of the Park of Wesserling.
