Blue Christmas
In 2023, the town of Guebwiller celebrates the bicentenary of the birth of its illustrious ceramist, Théodore Deck. The town will be decked out in Deck's colours, and a number of events will be organised by the town and its partners.
Noël Bleu 2023 will be a "Noël Bleu Deck"! The cultural events on offer will focus on key themes in Theodore's work: animals, nature, fire, the Orient, etc.
Programme:
From 21 to 24 November at the multimedia library, a show for young audiences, "Bleu comme les feuilles de l'arbre", combining storytelling, sign languages and world instruments, for schools and families.
On Saturday 25 November at 7pm, the show "Fantasia Céleste" by Compagnie Planète Vapeur opens with a spectacular and majestic reference to the bird and the blue of Deck's work.
On Sunday 26 November at 5pm, the blue (and Alsatian) elves of "Funky Mannalas" arrive with a fanfare for a travelling concert, "Kristkindelmarik tour".
On 2 and 3 December at 5pm, enter the lair of the dragon, a symbolic figure in the ceramist's work, with "Joséphine, transport sauvage" by the Compagnie belge des 4 saisons, a pretty dragon in the typical flame-red of Deck.
And from 2pm to 6pm, an ecological merry-go-round emblematic of Deck's arboreal bestiary, "L'arbre nomade". For the first time, the renovated Place de la Liberté will host a Blue Christmas event!
On 9 and 10 December at 5pm, fire will take centre stage, in reference to the epitaph on Deck's tombstone: "il arracha le feu au ciel" ("he snatched fire from the sky") and to the orientalism so dear to the ceramist. The Lunatypik Company will take us on a musical fire parade along the Silk Road.
At 2pm on the Place de la Liberté, a parent-powered merry-go-round returns with "Brut de bestioles", another reference to Deck's bestiary.
On 16 and 17 December, an allusion to Japan and Deck's passion for orientalism, with "Les mariés du vent", a dreamlike show on stilts, full of juggling prowess.
At the media library, a hand-knitted show for very young audiences aged 12 months to 4 years, "Marmaille", by the Compagnie les Zanimos. A final nod to Deck's bestiary!
Noël Bleu 2023 pays artistic tribute to Deck. Happy birthday Théodore!
